It should not be forgotten that engine oil is not the only fluid that needs regular changing in a car — coolant (antifreeze), power steering fluid, gear oil (relevant for automatic transmissions), brake fluid and others. The change intervals for these fluids are considerably longer than the oil-change interval, but sticking to those intervals is just as important as changing the oil on time. In particular, the interval for changing service fluids is typically two years, while automatic transmission fluid is changed every 60,000-100,000 km.
