Engine oils for use in petrol engines built from 1996 onward.

The API SJ class describes oils used in petrol engines from 1996 onward. Engine oils of this class are intended for use in the petrol engines of passenger and sports cars, minibuses and light trucks that are serviced according to the vehicle manufacturers' requirements. SJ sets the same minimum standards as SH, plus additional requirements for deposit formation and cold-temperature performance. Engine oils that meet API SJ requirements can be used wherever the vehicle manufacturer recommends the SH class or an earlier one.
