Synthetic oil has more stable properties than, say, hydrocracked or semi-synthetic oil. At the same time, in reality, no genuine, high-quality engine oil will do your engine any harm as long as its composition, quality and viscosity match what the automaker prescribes. It's only the oil change interval that needs to be chosen based on the base oil's origin.
