There actually aren't that many causes of oil consumption: essentially, it either simply leaks out through worn seals and gaskets, or it burns off in the cylinders together with the petrol. In the case of a leak, it's usually easy to fix. The question gets a bit trickier when it comes to treating oil burning. The causes of oil burning are often "hardened" valve stem seals, an engine oil that's not correctly matched to the engine, or worn-out piston rings.
