What oil should you put in an Opel?

Opel does not develop separate engine oil approvals for each of its various engines — there are only two approvals from Opel, one for diesel and one for petrol engines. Opel's oil approvals start with the code GM-LL, followed, by analogy with the ACEA classification used before 2004, by the letter A or B (A for petrol engines, B for diesel).

It's worth noting that if the oil packaging carries no data on an Opel approval, that plainly means the oil doesn't have one.

GM-LL-A-025 covers oils for petrol engines in passenger cars. The base requirements of this approval match the ACEA A3 standard.

GM-LL-B-025 covers oils for diesel engines in passenger cars. The base requirements of this approval match the ACEA B3 and B4 standards.

Important! Technology doesn't stand still, so new approvals may well be developed, and before making a final decision on which engine oil to choose, you're strongly advised to check your car's service book or contact Opel's official representative in your region.
