What oil should you put in an Audi (VW | Seat | Skoda)?

Oil approvals for VW | Audi | Seat | Skoda (VAG)

Carmakers' approvals must be listed on the engine oil label after the viscosity information and the assigned API and ACEA quality classes. If the approval you need is not on the label, that oil simply does not have it. Important!!! This is only a short description of VAG's engine oil approvals! To pin down the exact approval for your specific engine, check the car's documentation or contact an official VAG representative.

Here's what an oil approval looks like on the label

VW 500.00 Energy-conserving, all-season oils with an SAE grade of 5W-30, 5W-40, 20W-30 or 10W-40, intended for use in petrol engines. The base characteristics meet the requirements of ACEA A3-96.

VW 501.01, universal oils for use in petrol and direct-injection diesel engines. The base characteristics meet the requirements of ACEA class A2.

Notes: compatibility with elastomer seals must be checked; use in turbodiesel engines is allowed only combined with — VW 505.00;

VW 502.00, engine oil for direct-injection petrol engines with higher effective output. The base characteristics meet the requirements of ACEA class A3;

VW 503.00, a new standard for petrol engines with an extended service interval (WIV: 30,000 km, 2 years, Longlife). It exceeds the requirements of 502 00 (HTHS 2.9 mPa·s). This oil is intended exclusively for engines built from May 1999 onward.

Note: prohibited for cars of earlier model years, because of a lower high-temperature viscosity that can damage the engine.

VW 503.01, oils for heavily loaded petrol engines with an extended service interval (Longlife), for example the Audi S3, TT (HTHS > 3.5 mPa·s).

VW 504.00, oils for petrol and diesel engines with an extended Longlife service interval, including diesel engines with particulate filters that don't need additional fuel additives.

VW 505.00, oils for turbocharged and naturally aspirated diesel engines in passenger cars. The base characteristics meet the requirements of ACEA class B3.

VW 505.01, oils with an SAE viscosity of 5W-40 for diesel engines with unit injectors (Pumpe-Düse);

VW 506.00, oils for turbocharged diesel passenger cars with the extended Longlife service interval; the base characteristics meet the requirements of ACEA class B4.

Notes: intended only for engines built from May 1999 onward; prohibited for cars of earlier model years, because of a low high-temperature viscosity that can damage the engine.

VW 507.00 Oils for petrol and diesel engines with the extended Longlife service interval, including diesel engines with particulate filters that don't need additional fuel additives. Alternatively — 505.00 or 505.01
