VAZ 2110 - a car for the modern person.

After the "perestroika" years of the 90s came a new, free and democratic era. The "iron curtain" opened, and our people were finally able to see what real life abroad looked like. Trips abroad for work became possible, and people came back from them with new knowledge and a wish to live better. Everyone came to understand that owning a vehicle wasn't a luxury but a necessity. Our domestic car industry couldn't keep pace with this new modern reality. Practically every model turned out on our factories' assembly lines at the time failed to meet the new standards and couldn't serve as a status symbol for its owner.

So in 1996 the Volga Automobile Plant launched a new-generation model — the VAZ 2110. This front-wheel-drive saloon became the progenitor and foundation for many innovations first introduced in this very model. Engineers and designers came up with and put into practice a whole host of technical novelties for this car, features that later became the norm on cars of this class.

For greater body durability and corrosion resistance, its main panels were galvanised. The introduction of a more powerful 1.5-litre engine, together with ventilated brakes, made it possible to significantly improve handling and get up to speed faster on the move. At a time when absolutely every driver had to endure the fiercest heat with no cabin cooling at all, it was, of course, a breakthrough of engineering thought that some cars offered the option of fitting air conditioning — a feature of unheard-of luxury and comfort.

A new, modernised, reconfigurable cabin design with velour upholstery, which made it possible not just to sit comfortably in the back seats on a trip but also to use the car for carrying bulky loads; 13-inch wheels fitted to the car, letting the suspension smooth out the bumps in our roads more effectively; headrests on the front and rear seats, adding extra comfort on the move; and body paint in a "metallic" finish — these are just some of the pluses of the VAZ 2110.

Nowadays the model keeps being refined and fitted with extra features, from 14-inch rims all the way to heated mirrors, which lets us confidently predict a long and successful life ahead for the VAZ 2110.
