Oil approvals for Daimler Chrysler | Mercedes-Benz

Important!!! This is only a brief summary of Daimler Chrysler engine oil approvals! To determine the exact approval for a specific engine, refer to the car's documentation or to an official representative of Daimler Chrysler | Mercedes-Benz.

Engine oil approvals are always listed on the label alongside the viscosity information, as well as the assigned API and ACEA classes. If the approval you need isn't on the label, then that oil definitely doesn't carry it, whatever the salesperson tells you.

Mercedes oil approval on the label MB 228.1 All-season car oils approved for Mercedes-Benz diesel engines. Extended oil change interval for turbocharged truck engines; base requirements correspond to the ACEA E2 standard.

Note: a compatibility check with the elastomer seals must be carried out.

MB 228.3 All-season car oils for turbocharged and naturally aspirated diesel engines. Depending on operating conditions and servicing, the oil change interval can be up to 45,000-60,000 km.

MB 228.5 UHPD (Ultra High Performance Diesel) engine oil for heavily loaded diesel engines, with an extended oil change interval (up to 45,000 km); for the heavy-duty class, up to 160,000 km is possible (as per the car manufacturer's recommendations). Base requirements correspond to the ACEA B2/E4 standard.

MB 228.51 All-season engine oil for heavily loaded diesel engines meeting Euro 4 requirements, with an extended oil change interval.

MB 229.1 Car oils for passenger cars with diesel and petrol engines. Requirements are somewhat higher than those of the standards ACEA A2-96, A3-96, and also B2-96, B3-96.MB 229.3 Car oils for passenger cars with an extended oil change interval (up to 30,000 km, per the car manufacturer's recommendations). Requirements are somewhat higher than those of the standards ACEA A3, B3, B4.MB 229.31 Car oils for engines of passenger cars and minibuses fitted with particulate filters. Minimum sulphated ash content (up to 0.8%).

MB 229.5 Car oils for passenger cars with an extended oil change interval (up to 30,000 km, per the car manufacturer's recommendations), meeting elevated environmental requirements. Requirements are somewhat higher than those of the standards ACEA A3, B3, B4.
