The approval was introduced in 2005 for engine oils recommended for use in diesel engines fitted with particulate filters, as well as in modern petrol engines. For automotive oils approved under this approval, an extended service interval is provided compared with MB 229.31, reaching up to 20,000 km. The base requirements correspond to ACEA A3 B4 and C3.
