After the Aral and Castrol trademarks merged within the BP group, a general agreement between Castrol and VW was also signed in 2004, under which VAG officially recommends the use of Castrol lubricants for servicing its cars (it's worth noting that this applies exclusively to servicing, and not to factory-fill oils or original VW-branded oils).
