Toyota has opened its first hydrogen filling station in the US, near Los Angeles. Hydrogen reaches the filling station via a pipeline laid from a Shell plant that specialises in processing biological waste.
By 2012, Toyota plans to set up service centres across the US for electric cars whose fuel cells run on electricity generated from hydrogen through a chemical reaction. The Japanese carmaker believes that within two years, no fewer than 100 hydrogen cars will be on the roads of Los Angeles.
