Since 2010, the dexos1 and dexos2 standards, developed by General Motors for automotive oils, have been in force. Lubricants that meet the requirements of these standards are recommended for use in Daewoo, Chevrolet, Opel and other GM-brand vehicles.

Among the first to pass certification against the new requirements were oils in the Mobil range (Mobil 1 5W-30 for petrol engines, as well as Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 and Mobil Super 3000 XE 5W-30 for diesel engines) and Liqui Moly (Liqui Moly Top Tec 4601 for petrol engines, as well as Liqui Moly Top Tec 4600 and Liqui Moly Top Tec 4602 for diesels).

Oils that have passed certification under the GM standards are easy to spot by the dexos logo on the packaging.

General Motors representatives have warned all owners of vehicles under warranty that if engine faults arise from using oils that don't meet the dexos1 or dexos2 standards, the company will not cover repair costs.

Today, the list of engine oils meeting the dexos1 and dexos2 specifications includes oils from Shell, Motul, Champion, Gulf, MOL, Pinnacle Oil, Petro-Canada and other brands (list of oils).
