According to a statement from Igor Komarov, president of the Volga Automobile Plant, the plant plans to launch a new model starting in 2012. It will be a Lada Priora fitted with a bi-fuel, LPG-and-petrol engine. A car running on both LPG and petrol needs a larger network of gas filling stations. Because of this, the automaker is holding active talks with Gazprom about expanding the number of specialised filling stations for such cars. This car, according to the president, is planned to come with an estate-type body, which differs from the sedan in having a combined passenger and cargo compartment.
The car with the bi-fuel engine will cost 40,000 roubles more than the standard version. This became known from statements by representatives of the automotive giant. On the aftermarket services side, the going price for installing such a system yourself is half that. But the plant's people make the following case: the new fuel system, factory-fitted on the production line, will be considerably more reliable, and the plant will take on a full warranty obligation for this equipment.
Lada Priora CNG Plus — that's the name planned for the new bi-fuel modification of the Lada Priora.
