The Minsk Automobile Plant is today a serious competitor in the production of heavy-duty commercial vehicles. On top of that, it also builds modern buses, trolleybuses and various towed equipment.

MAZ-5551 The overall lineup includes tractor units, low-frame medium-tonnage trucks, various dump trucks, timber trucks, and vehicles for long loads. The following wheel formulas are offered: 4x2, 4x4, 6x4, 6x6. All told, the Minsk plant builds about three hundred vehicle models and more than sixty types of towed equipment. This makes it possible to produce tractor units with standardised semi-trailers, flatbed trucks with trailers, and MAZ-5551 dump trucks with a 4x2 wheel formula. Production of trailers for dump trucks with unloading to both sides has also been fully mastered.

Today, MAZ-branded vehicles meet standards ranging from Euro-2 to Euro-4 inclusive. These vehicles embody the most advanced solutions, which have delivered new consumer qualities for the trucks. That means a new MAZ engine, a larger permissible body volume, higher load capacity, and more gearbox ratios, among other things. The chassis of the MAZ-5551 dump truck can be fitted with a system for collecting and hauling municipal solid waste and construction debris, as well as for transporting loads in a storage container of up to 10 cubic metres and self-unloading bulk and oversized cargo.

Quite recently, MAZ rolled out the environmentally clean MAZ-555035 dump truck. Its engine is a Deutz diesel rated at 158 kW, fully compliant with Euro-4 standards and fitted with a 6-speed gearbox. Besides the imported units, it is worth noting the comfortable cab, something that had not previously been fitted to Minsk-built trucks of this kind. With this release, it is fair to say the market is getting a fine partner for the famous MAZ-5551 dump truck.

Besides the vehicles listed above, the Minsk plant produces a huge range of spare parts for every model it builds. Statistics show that the most sought-after dump trucks in the Russian Federation and the CIS countries are the MAZ-5516 and MAZ-5551. It is hard to imagine practically any construction site, farm operation, or quarry today without them. These MAZ workhorses have earned a solid and lasting reputation thanks to their high profitability when hauling large volumes. They are compact, manoeuvrable, capable of high speeds, and at the same time very undemanding in maintenance and resistant to the harsh conditions of everyday operation.
