For more than 100 years now, the Castrol brand has sponsored teams competing in Moto GP, WRC, WTCC and the Dakar Series. In 2008, the world-renowned lubricant maker signed a contract to sponsor the UEFA European Football Championship, and has officially supported the World Cup since 2010.

In January 2011 the company signed a similar contract to support the National Football League in the US. Today the NFL has 32 teams, and the total audience of this country's biggest professional sports league reaches 180 million people. American football is the most popular sport in the US. The Castrol EDGE brand was given exclusive sponsor status on NFL.com, the NFL Network, and NFL game broadcasts. Carolyn Eckert, Castrol's finance manager, is convinced the company will meaningfully support the growth of American football in the US.

According to Castrol's research, about half of the buyers of this brand's products watch NFL games. So marketers can reasonably expect a solid rise in the brand's popularity across the States.
